I can't help wonder what life would be like if I was able to stay. I know I would be financially sound, instead of being one of the 35% unemployed over the last eight years, and don't think the VA is here to help. I went to them after getting out of service, and they took 15 years to acknowledge the attack. However, the VA decided they don't care.
There is a very bright point here. Over the last two decades, God has been reminding me of all the people's lives I've touched for God. It's true, if I was able to stay in the military, I would be financially well off, but God would not have been able to use me.
God can use anyone, even those who deny God, but the way God has used me would not have been possible serving in the military.
Should I be mad, disappointed, even resentful for the loss of a career in the military? No. This life is temporary, put what we do for the kingdom of God is eternal. Jesus said "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal." Matthew 6:20. So those LGBT servicemen have their treasures here on Earth; I will continue to look towards Jesus and the reward He has for me.
So if you have people who have done you wrong, don't fret. For they certainly don't give you a second thought concerning you, so don't let them occupy any of your time and thoughts. Forgive and keep your eyes on Jesus.
